We’re going seafood in this edition of Wow! That Tastes Good! This may come as a surprise, but it’s been many years since I went out to dinner. Lunch, yes; dinner, no. The reasons are mostly due to family responsibilities. But, today being my birthday, John actually suggested it. I was all in favor. I love to celebrate any holiday, and what better holiday is there than a birthday? And with any celebration, food helps mark the occasion. However, I dislike making myself crazy trying to prepare a great meal, only to end up frustrated and unable to enjoy it. God bless restaurateurs and the people who work in restaurants. I love you all.
As I previously mentioned, it had been a while, so we asked a trusted friend for recommendations. She cited a few, and one of those was Captain Groovy’s on Shore Drive. I’ve driven by it many times but had never stopped. We arrived at about ten minutes til four in the afternoon. As we entered, two departing staff members wished us a happy meal. Alright, people on their way out the door took the time to be courteous to us, that was a huge plus. The gentleman who seated us and our server were equally courteous. That alone made for a fantastic outing.

But then there was the food. I started with a jalapeño margarita while John had a glass of rosé and we shared a plate of steamed clams. The clams were cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. I then had the salmon done Oscar’s Way. I asked for it to be cooked medium, and it was terrific. It was stuffed with a generous serving of crab meat and shrimp, and came with a serving of garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. Everything was lovely. John ordered the mahi-mahi the same way. It was a wonderful birthday dinner. We eschewed dessert, as John had previously made a flourless chocolate cake which was waiting for us at home.

For anyone who has previously visited Captain Groovy’s, it is under new ownership. I received a gift certificate for Aberdeen Barn as a birthday gift from the staff. Well, it was my birthday, so for me, it’s a birthday gift. I haven’t been to Aberdeen Barn since 1995, but maybe it’s time to go again?
If you have a hankering for good seafood, and perhaps are saddened by the recent closures of Red Lobster, then go to Captain Groovy’s for your seafood fix, and you’ll be saying, “Wow! That tastes good!” too.
